Gone With the Wind

I have to admit that I'm a huge Gone With the Wind fan. Ever since I read it the first time when I was twelve years old I fell in love with Scarlett, Melanie, Rhett, Ashley, and everyone else. I think I've gone through about three copies of the book, and have completely trashed them all. My husband found me an early hardback edition and gave it to me one year. I'm afraid to read that one...lest I trash it too.

I did read Scarlett by Alexandria Ripley and tolerated my way through it for Rhett and Scarlett to finally get their happily ever after. But, really I tend to forget that it exists!

But a couple years ago my dear husband surprised me with another book called Rhett Butler's People by Donald McCaig. If you love Gone With the Wind, you will like this book too. It's so much better than Scarlett was at finishing out the story and staying true to the characters.

This book parallels the Gone With the Wind timeline but is told from Rhett's perspective. I love figuring out those things that were alluded to in Gone With the Wind but never fully covered. The book also ends just a little bit after Gone With the Wind ends, so there's a more tied up ending if you're interested in that.

So those are the books I love the most in the whole wide world! Of course I'll read just about anything out there, so I'm looking forward to some other suggestions from you guys too!

I love this one!! Have you read "Rebecca"? The author is Daphne Du Marier. One of my other favorites. How many favorites can you have?

I read gone with the wind when I was about 12 too. (And multiple times since.) I haven't heard of Rhett Butler's People... I'll definitely be checking that one out. Wasn't impressed with Ripley's Scarlett.

I've read this book too and was actually rather disappointed by the ending. Ah well.
