Quiet Book

We do Christmas on a pretty tight budget over here. As a result, I generally start watching sales and thrift stores about this time of year. I also start making stuff.

This year, my kids (they'll be 4 & almost 2) are getting quiet books to take to church. I don't use patterns. I just kind of make it up as I go, using what I have on hand. But I searched the web and found a lot of inspiration from Homemade by Jill and The Crafting Chicks.

These finger puppets were seriously so fun and easy to make. I think I'm going to make 5 little monkey finger puppets, too.

Snap-on caterpillar with cocoon pocket.

Flowers button on and off. You can switch them around.
The stamp velcros on and off. I used a laminated photo for the backside of the postcard, so that it would slide easily in and out of the mailbox. The red flag goes up and down.
The mitten is lined with really soft, silky, furry stuff, so you get a nice surprise
when you reach inside.
Just a pocket with stuff in it. The black thing was supposed to be a cell phone, but it
looks more like a calculator... ehh, it works.
I saved an old, used up gift card for the "credit" card.
I still need to make about 6-8 more pages, and then I'll split them into two books-
one for each kid, so we don't have any fights during church!
What about you? Have you started any Christmas projects?

That is THE cutest quiet book ever!! Seriously! You are so creative. I love it!

And no... I haven't started any Christmas projects yet... I need to though! I guess I'll have to start thinking.

That is super cute! I didn't even see this post before I posted mine. You could make them a little backpack to go with it. I am planning to so they can carry their own crap.;)

I am making a play kitchen for my girls to share this year. I was planning on sewing a bunch of fabric food, but am running out of time and found super cute and cheap stuff at IKEA. That is it. We are taking a vacation instead of lots of gifts.;) When I finish I will post some pics. Post more of your pages when you finish them.

I love quiet books and made a couple when I had babies in the house. Thanks for the great ideas! They could make a great baby gift:)

Charlotte, would you ever consider sewing more quiet books and selling them? I would love something like that, but have no time (much less talent) to do it...

Did you use regular thread or embroidery floss for your blanket stitch? Did you do it by hand or with your sewing machine?

Hi, I love your quiet book! I was wondering if you had a template for the caterpillar page and also what type of stitching did you use? Hand sewn?

Thanks!

I don't have any patterns or templates for the book- for every page I just took a sheet of paper, sketched what I wanted, and then cut out the pieces to use as patterns.

Everything is done by hand with a blanket stitch, using embroidery floss.

Good luck if you are making one! It was very time consuming, but I actually enjoyed the hand stitching. It was relaxing for me.
