With the kids back in school, I'm trying to think of a schedule for my son and me (and the others when they're home). I'm tired of ending every day and not feeling like my house is any cleaner, or that I've got anything useful done. I feel stressed out lately, and I think it's because I spend so much time wasting time.
I've tried Flylady in the past, but I don't really like getting the e-mails, because I feel like there are too many of them, and to be honest, I don't really care about all the testimonials. I would like to make a control journal or something, though.
I love reading schedules that other people use. It always gives me ideas of things that I could do. Like this one at Like a Warm Cup of Coffee. Even if I never implement the ideas I still like reading them. Maybe I just like to be a voyeur. :) If any of you have schedules, and would like to share, could you do me a favor and post them? Or just share your tips for scheduling your time. I'll take any help I can get. I love being a wife and mom (there's nothing I'd rather be), and I love having a cleaner, happier home, but I'm having a hard time with it right now.

I am SO with you, Brenda! I don't have any answers yet, but I have some idea's in the works and I'll post them soon.
The best thing I read all week is a line from an article in Parenting magazine called 39 things every mom should know. My favorite line said:
"At some point it will be February. Things will seem bleak. You will think about vitamins, glasses, more exercise, more sleep, more chores, less TV, more rules, fewer rules, and organic food. Just wait. Things will get better when the snow melts. Know that it will happen again at the end of summer, right before school starts. It's the circle of life, baby."
When I read that it made me feel so much better!
ditto, brenda! i'm an amazing time waster. and i hate it. my house should be sparkling!
whew..i'm so happy that i am not the only one.
i think i read on simplify a little idea about listing 3 things each day to get done...anyone can accomplish 3 things, right? then if you do more you feel like a winner!;D of course I don't do that but i'm gonna! soon. maybe tomorrow or next week. lol
Hi! Pretty new here. I was having the same struggle. What I found by literally taking a good hard look at myself was that I was being so lazy! Little things have made the difference: taking off my clothes and putting them straight in the laundry basket, putting my shoes back in their boxes right off my feet, putting my brush/comb/hairspray right back after I've used it, hubby emptying dishwasher as soon as he gets in then as I'm cooking I'm reloading it with what I've used then right after dinner putting dishes straight in there (not letting them sit for 1 minute!). Just little things like this have kept my house so much neater and me so much more sane-er - :0)
Did I post this? It doesn't say my name but it may as well. HELLO!! This is so me right now. I thought I would have a huge surge of energy when the kids left and it just didn't happen. I'm excited for some suggestions here!! Thanks for the question.
By the way....I do have a silly little trick that helps. I give myself 15 minutes and do as much as I can in 15 minutes. Usually that motivates me enough to keep going. OR I'll tell myself....50 things. I keep going until 50 things have been picked up and put away. My kids know all about the 10 20 30 things. It's a great way to get things going for them too.
Guess I'll go do that....maybe.
I'm in exactly the same boat- even the love/hate of flylady. But fly lady DOES work if you do. :0) My house is out of control right now and I have no routine left after summer, but what has worked in the past (and I'm going to try to make work again) are two things:
1- Take one extra minute... put clothes away the minute you take them off, wash that one pan, take that one pair of shoes with you to the bedroom... all those "extra minutes" really add up fast. I'm always surprised how quickly my house gets clean.
and 2- once the kids are in bed I set a time (usually 10-20 minutes) and I have to clean for that amount of time. Whatever I can't get done, I refuse to feel guilty or stress about it... but again, I'm always surprised at what I CAN get done in that small amount of time.
Hope that helps.
just thought i'd share these free printable downloads that i found on houseoforder.com. it is a weekly map and a goal sheet. i think it could help. http://www.houseoforder.com/weekly%20map.pdf
You should go to http://orgjunkie.com - I went there and after a little tweaking to fit our home I printed out her chore chart for adults and it has really helped in the last two weeks with keeping the house presentable.
wow, brenda. perhaps you have touched a nerve?!
I've got the House of Order and Organizing Junkie websites bookmarked already. The problem I'm finding is I'm spending so much time reading blogs about decorating and organizing, then not having any time left to implement anything. It can get a bit overwhelming, because there's so much good info out there. I need to just set aside a couple of hours soon and decide on an organization/scheduling system. Even if it doesn't work, I can try it for a bit and then try something else. The hard part is getting started and doing it, though.
brenda...you are hilarious. and i can relate so much that it hurts.
