Sanity Saver

This simple little sign has become my best friend this summer. I'm not sure why I didn't do this sooner. Does anyone else out there have the neighbor children knocking on their door all the time or just at the worst times ever? The past few summers have been hard. Sometimes they knock way too early in the morning. Not a welcome thing after being up feeding an infant in the night. Sometimes they knock just after the baby has finally gone down for a nap. Sometimes they knock just as I have engaged my older children in their chores or an afternoon quiet time activity. Some of these children are too young to understand the concept of time so they come back every 5 minutes. Finally, this summer I had a stroke of genius to make sign I could put out when it isn't play time for my children. I used a piece of craft foam from Walmart (less than $1) and glued a magnet I already had to the back. For the children who cannot yet read it only took 1 or 2 times to explain to them what the red "stop" sign meant. It has worked great!

Brilliant. My son is only two, but the last few days there's been a 6 year old neighbor kid coming to see if he can play. While most of the time it's fine, he has come knocking right during meals... which of course leads my son to immediately pronounce he's full. I'll definitely keep this one in mind.

I just saw something similar to that on another blog recently. We haven't had neighbor kids coming over for awhile, so I haven't felt the need to do that. But it's definitely a good idea if they do start coming.

that is awesome!!! now if you could figure out something for the telephone too that would be wonderful!!!! by the way jen, with baby food you just puree the fruit, stick it in the bottles and process it in the water bath or steamer. easy peasy!

I love this idea! It's so much better than just being mean when they come to the door for the hundredth time in an hour. :)
